    Time Domain Reflectometer

    Could someone help answer this question?

    The Time Domain Reflectometer is often used as a fault __________ device.
    a. Separating
    b. Pinpointing
    c. Localizing
    d. Dissecting

    pinpointing.
    works like a radar gun on a cop car. sends pulse down the cable, you short the opposite end and measure the time it takes the pulse to return,assuming you know the speed the pulse is traveling or if you have other cables the same length to compare you can locate the distance of the fault pretty accurately.

    thanks for explaining lester, my choice was either pinpointing or localizing but wasn't exactly sure how it operated.

    The answer to this question should be "Localizing" there is too many variables that would affect the pinpoint capabilities for the answer to be Pinpointing. which they are identifying as the correct answer.

    This question was on the level 3 exam yesterday. I'm glad I read this, as localizing would have been my answer.
